When Munich unfolds its very special charm during the Advent season, the Tollwood Winter Festival 2026 stands out as the ultimate cultural highlight. From November 24 to December 23, 2026, the Theresienwiese transforms into a colorful, sustainable festival ground that is much more than a classic Christmas market. As a hotel near the Tollwood Winter Festival, we would like to introduce you to this unique event – and show you why a multi-day stay in Oberschleißheim is the perfect starting point. Around 600,000 visitors come to Tollwood every year, and for good reason: nowhere else in Munich will you find this blend of world music, theater, sustainable arts and crafts, and social engagement under one roof.
The Tollwood Winter Festival is no ordinary Christmas market. It is a cultural event, a statement for sustainability, and a meeting place that attracts people from all over the world. Those who have visited once always return – not just because of the atmospheric ambiance under colorful fairy lights and in heated tents, but also because of the deep conviction that drives the festival. As accommodation for Tollwood 2026, we offer you a quiet, well-connected base at the Hotel am Schlosspark in Oberschleißheim for your Advent season in Munich.
A single day is simply not enough for a real Tollwood visit. The grand stage, the Market of Ideas, the many culinary stalls, and the theater productions deserve to be explored at your leisure. It is best to plan two to three days – that way, you can combine your visit with other Munich Christmas markets and truly enjoy the Advent season in the city.
Since its inception, the Tollwood Winter Festival has developed into one of the most important alternative cultural festivals in Germany. What began as a small counter-event to the commercial Christmas season is today an internationally recognized event with a clear profile: sustainability, cosmopolitanism, art, and social responsibility. The organizer, Tollwood GmbH, has turned the festival into a platform that celebrates cultural diversity while consistently focusing on ecological compatibility.
What distinguishes Tollwood from other festivals and Christmas markets is its consistent sustainability concept. Nearly 100% of the catering is organic-certified – a standard that is unique among major German winter festivals. Vendors and exhibitors are selected according to strict criteria: fair production conditions, environmentally friendly materials, and regional sourcing are at the forefront. This makes Tollwood the preferred meeting place for sustainability-conscious city travelers, families, and culture enthusiasts.
The heart of the Tollwood Winter Festival is the Market of Ideas. Here, artisans, designers, and creatives from all over the world present their work – ranging from handmade jewelry and textile art to extraordinary home accessories. The market is the perfect antidote to mass-produced goods: here you will find gifts with a story, each piece unique or produced in small batches. If you are looking for special Christmas gifts that neither come from a factory nor can be found in every other store, you will find them here. The Market of Ideas is part of the freely accessible area – you do not pay admission to stroll through the stalls.
What many do not know: around 90% of the entire Tollwood program is free of charge.
