The Munich Institute for Astro-, Particle and BioPhysics (MIAPbP) is a joint visiting research center of the Max Planck Institute for Physics and the Technical University of Munich (TUM). It was established to foster top-tier international research and to provide scientists from around the world the opportunity to collaborate at the Research Campus Garching for several weeks. The focus is not on rigid lecture programs, but rather on free scientific collaboration in an inspiring environment.
On the official MIAPbP website, you will find all current programs, workshop topics, and information on how to apply. The institute intentionally sees itself as a place of open science: whiteboard discussions, spontaneous cooperation between groups from different disciplines, and a lively exchange across research boundaries define everyday life at the MIAPbP.
The MIAPbP covers a broad spectrum of modern fundamental research. The focus lies on three major disciplines:
The program structure at the MIAPbP is divided into two formats: Long-term programs typically last for four weeks and offer a fixed group of participants the opportunity to dive deep into a specific topic. Topical Workshops, on the other hand, are more compact events lasting about three days, during which a narrowly defined scientific topic is discussed intensively. Both formats require prior application or an invitation – the MIAPbP is not a publicly accessible event, but an exclusive scientific environment.
