Marienplatz - the heart of Munich

City of Dachau
Dachau has seen a lot in its 1200 year history. For 700 years, dukes and electors defined the fates of the city. From 1840 until 1914, Dachaubecame the most important artist colony - after Worpswede. Among others, Spitzweg, Dill, Liebermann and Corinth worked here. From 1933 until 1945, Dachau experienced years of horror with the concentration camp. More than 32,000 prisoners died as a result of torture, execution, hunger and epidemics. The Concentration Camp Memorial Site reminds us of this time today.
