The most famous stadium in Munich is the Olympic Stadium. It was built in 1972 for the Olympic Games and is part of the Munich Olympia Park. The architectural design of the facilities has won many awards, the most striking feature being the glass tent roof design.

Munich Olympic Stadium

Built as an athletics stadium with a track, it is now used as a venue for music and sports events. The stadium can hold 69,000 visitors. The latest information on up and coming events can be found here.

The Olympic Stadium is open to the public (without guides) daily between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., but not on days of events.

Until the new Allianz Arena is completed, the Olympic Stadium is home to the two traditional football clubs of FC-Bayern and TSV-1860. Built as an athletics stadium it has a track that keep spectators further away from the pitch than in a purely football stadium.

Munich will get a purely football stadium with the new Allianz Arena. It will be the only stadium in Germany with three spectators' terraces. An indication of the "Royal Class".

The most outstanding external feature will be the translucent shell that glows in a Bayern-red, 1860-blue or neutral white depending on the event.

Allianz-Arena
The Allianz Arena will hold 66,000 spectators. The opening is planned for June 2005. The opening game of the 2006 Football World Cup is scheduled here on June 9, 2006. More information can be found here.

Olympic Ice Rink

The Olympic Ice Rink lies in the Munich Olympia Park and is part of the Olympic Ice Sports Centre. The stadium was used as a boxing arena during the Summer Olympics in 1972.

Today, the EHC-Munich plays its ice hockey games in the Olympic Ice Rink. It has space for around 6,300 fans.
The stadiums can be reached in short time from our hotel with both public transport and by car.
